Across the Universe (2007)

Photobucket

Across the Universe is one big collaboration of very talented artists- filmmakers and actors, writers and musicians, dancers and other performing artists, painters, illustrators and other visual artists. And it shows.

A typical love story set in the 60s accompanied by a string of fine Beatles music is told in gorgeous music video-ish cinematography. While the story is the not the freshest off the wagon, the novelty of this beatlemaniac-al tale is so surprising, creative and impressive, it becomes too hard to say no to this charming creation.

9/10

now that you mentioned cinema paradiso, i doubt across the universe can match it well in every category except probably in cinematography and soundtrack. my fault for being less objective.

maybe ratings depend on how attached you are to the songs and whether you think it's a worthy tribute or an abomination to the beatles legacy. just see it for the heck of it, and hope you find something that will endear it to you.

i'm hesitating to watch this film because of some bad reviews i've read. but now, when you said that its "too hard to say no to this charming creation," and rating it same (9/1o) to one of my fav film cinema paradiso... then i think i'm going to watch this.
